(3.0 Units) (No prerequisite. Three lecture hours weekly.) This course is for sociology students, citizens, elected officials, managers and all others who are concerned about the role of government, private sector, and nonprofit organizations in contemporary society. Among the many topics to be covered are the following: the origins of organizational society, dynamics of organizational survival, methods of organizational research, forms of citizen influence on organizations, societal consequences of organizational practices, individual/psychological consequences of organizational practices, relationships between organizations and local communities, and relationships between organizations and nation states.
