Banner Title: Laboratory and Exotic Animals This course provides an overview of the study of exotic animals and those used in research settings. Course content emphasizes selecting animals for research, maintaining safety and health, providing proper care and handling, managing pain, and laboratory procedures. Topics include selection and procurement of animals; safety and health considerations and husbandry; laboratory and exotic animal handling and restraint; pain management; animal health and disease; laboratory procedures; and laws, regulations, and policies on the care and use of laboratory animals. Field trips may occur on days other than scheduled class times. Students must pay a $25 supply fee when registering for this course. Prerequisites for Winter 2009 and Winter 2010: VET 106 with a grade of C or better, VET 111 with a grade of C or better, VET 216 with a grade of C or better Prerequisites beginning Winter 2011: VET 111 with a grade of C or better, VET 231 with a grade of C or better Corequisite beginning Winter 2011: VET 232 Offered Winter term
