Description: A survey of children's literature including the following genres: poetry, multicultural books, informational books and biography, realistic fiction, and historical fiction. Emphasis is placed on understanding how quality children's literature experiences contribute to children's literacy skills. The course introduces controversies, trends and issues related to children's literature and developmentally appropriate strategies for encouraging children's response to literature (infancy to adolescence).
