Description: The origin and development of spoken and written languages, language acquisition, and the evolution of language are studied in this course. The basics of linguistics including systems of phonetics and phonology, semantics, morphology and syntax are also studied. There is also a strong focus on the grammar and sentence structure of standard written English. Transfer: CSU: DSI, UC. (IGETC 4)
