Units 3; Class Hours: Minimum of 48 lecture hours/semester; Recommended: Eligibility for READ 836, ENGL 836 or ESL 400, and MATH 110 or 111; Prerequisite(s): None; Corequisite(s): Concurrent enrollment in HSCI 481. Description: Prepares the student for certification as a Phlebotomy Technician I by providing an overview of the role of a phlebotomist, the purpose for drawing blood, phlebotomy skin punctures and venipuncture techniques and equipment, medical/ legal considerations, safety and infection control and the phlebotomist as a member of the health care team. Students complete 48 hours of classroom training, which includes technical skills training. Transfer: CSU.
