(8 credits) F, SP First semester theory course teaching the role and function of the paramedic, ethical and legal aspects of EMS, overview of anatomy and physiology, patient assessment skills, fl uid and electrolytes, use of blood and related hazards, shock and management of shock, IV therapy, respiratory systems indices and pathophysiology, management of respiratory problems, and recognition and implications of emotionally disturbed patients. Lab fee. Liability insurance fee. Advanced Extrication and BTLS/PHTLS will be included as part of the course schedule for the fall semester and must be successfully completed to receive credit for EMS 2271C - Paramedic I. Pass with a C or better. Prerequisite: Must be a certifi ed Florida EMT, BSC 2084C, or BSC 2085C and BSC 2086C. Corequisite: EMS 2435L.
