(3 credits) GR This course is a survey of the major periods of African-American literature. Attention will be given to the African background of the works and the study will cover historical, as well as literary, elements of the works, their authors, and the time periods. There will be a concentration on literary conventions, terms, and themes, as well as the authors' political, social, and economic backgrounds. Prerequisite: ENC 1101 with a grade of C or better, or Instructor's permission.
