Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Recommendation: SOC 101 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course addresses the concept of gender as an organizing principle in men's and women's lives from a sociological perspective. The class will address the issue of the social construction of gender and how it relates to race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality, and how social institutions are gendered. Topics to be covered will include cultural ideas of gender, as well as gender and the economy, politics, the media, families, and education. It will also address how gender impacts interactions between individuals and groups. This course is not open to students who are enrolled in or who received credit in SOC 202.
