Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Recommendation: Satisfactory completion of the English Placement Process or ENGL 20 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher and satisfactory completion of the Reading Placement Process or READ 43 with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course consists of a study of topical issues and problems concerning 20th century Asian history. Emphasis will be placed upon political, economic, social and cultural institutions, western imperialism, Asian nationalism, the emergence of modern Asian states, international relations, and contemporary Asian societies.
