Class hours: 3.0 Lecture Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of the English Placement Process or ENGL 52 or equivalent with a grade of Pass or "C" or higher. This course focuses on the principles of newsgathering and newswriting, with emphasis on journalistic writing. Basic news story structure and development, news evaluation, newsgathering methods, interviewing, craftsmanship, and reporting techniques in general are explored. Newspaper and other news and information media are analyzed. The course is particularly recommended for English and communications majors and those planning careers in news media, public relations, communications, corporate communications and news and informational media. Transfer Credit: CSU; UC* *UC credit limits may apply. JOUR 101 and JOUR 201 combined: maximum credit, one course.
