(Formerly SOC 101: Introduction to Sociology) 5 credits quarters: F, W, S, SR This introductory course in sociology provides a survey of the discipline and a foundation for other sociology and related social science courses. Significant concepts and theories are introduced along with the basics of social research. Topics include culture, social stratification, deviance, social change, and social institutions such as the family and education. Although the main emphasis is on contemporary American society, comparative and historical perspectives are included.
