10 credits quarters: W, S This course is designed to prepare students for the state Nursing Assistant Certification Exam by expanding their knowledge in the following areas: medical terminology, vocabulary development, oral skills, reading, writing, mathematics, personal care skills, basic technical skills, mental health/social service needs, rights and independence promotion, infection control, safety/emergency procedures, rules and regulations pertaining to Washington State NAC requirements, communication/interpersonal skills, and job preparation. Prerequisite: Students must achieve a minimum score of 221 on the CASAS reading test and/or a minimum score of 40 on the COMPASS reading test and possess the ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language. In addition, all students must submit to a Washington State Patrol criminal history background check.
