6 credits quarters: F, W, S, SR The clinical course provides a transition for licensed practical nurses entering the Yakima Valley Community College Nursing Program at an advanced level. It provides clinical application for theoretical concepts in nursing care of adults and children experiencing multi-dimensional alterations in health. Opportunities for campus laboratory practice of selected skills are provided. The course also includes clinical experiences in caring for selected clients in acute care with an emphasis on the use of nursing process to promote adaptation and wellness. The concepts of communication, lifespan, legal/ethical issues, pharmacology, nutrition, leadership, safety, health teaching, and culture are included. Prerequisite: A valid Washington State LPN license and enrollment in or previous successful completion of NRSE 214.
