5 credits quarters: F This course emphasizes active reading and introduces students to effective note-taking, study techniques, and test-taking skills. Students learn to monitor their comprehension and learn what steps to take when comprehension fails. In addition, they learn how to figure out what information is important to know (remember), how to learn it, and how to approach objective and essay exams. Students will practice applying skills to expository and literary texts, some of which deal with multicultural issues and themes. Offered fall quarter. Prerequisite: YVCC placement into DVREA 051
