3 credits quarters: S (Formerly CHEM 257: Organic Chemistry III Lecture & Lab) An introduction to organic chemistry for the student majoring in science or whose career path requires organic chemistry. This is part three of a three quarter sequence in organic chemistry. This course will cover functional group transformations, addition, elimination, nucleophilic substitution, and oxidation/reduction reactions. Functional groups studied will be carboxylic acids and derivatives, enols and enolates, polyenes, aromatic compounds, amines, and carbohydrates.
