Investigation of origins, strategies and conduct of World War II in Asia. Considers elements of Japan's prewar culture that encouraged the rise of militarism; the Japanese invasion of China; the attack on Pearl Harbor; Japanese, Chinese and American strategies during the war; strategic bombing, the use of atomic weapons; the Allied occupation of Japan; and how residents of East Asia remembered World War II. HIST 2372 and 2322 recommended. Course fee $10.
