A study of the factors that impact the well-being of the young child including healthy behavior, food, nutrition, fitness, and safety practices. Focus on local and national standards and legal implications of relevant policies and regulations. Course content must be aligned as applicable with State Board for Educator Certification Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities standards. Course requires students to participate in field experiences with children from infancy through age 12 in a variety of settings with varied and diverse populations and includes a minimum of 16 hours of field experiences. Course is a study of nutrition, health, safety, and related activities, including skill development in management of issues, guidelines, and practices in nutrition, as well as community health, hygiene, safety, and legal implications. Integration of these principles is applied to a variety of settings. Three lecture and one external hours per week. TSI Requirement: M1; R1, R2C; W1. Prerequisite: None. Co-op Fee: $16.25
