Fundamental principles of living organisms including physical and chemical properties of life, organization, function, evolutionary adaptation, and classification. Concepts of reproduction, genetics, ecology, and the scientific method are included. BIOL 1408 is the first part of a two-semester introduction to these concepts. Topics such as the scientific method, the chemical basis of life, the organization and function of the cell, cellular reproduction, metabolism, and genetics are included in BIOL 1408. Other concepts are included in BIOL 1409, the second part of the course. Emphasis will be placed on selected topics in contemporary biology. Three lecture and three laboratory hours per week. TSI Requirement: M2; R3; W1. Prerequisite: It is strongly recommended that students take BIOL 1408 before BIOL 1409. Lab Fee: $24
