Fundamental principles of living organisms including physical and chemical properties of life, organization, function, evolutionary adaptation, and classification. Concepts of reproduction, genetics, ecology, and the scientific method are included. BIOL 1406 and BIOL 1407 are two linked courses designed to be taken in consecutive semesters. Intended for science majors. BIOL 1406 includes the scientific method, the chemical basis of life, the organization and function of the cell, cellular reproduction, energy transformations, and genetics. Other concepts are included in BIOL 1407. BIOL 1406 and BIOL 1408 may not both be counted towards completion of graduation requirements. Three lecture and three laboratory hours per week. TSI Requirement: M2; R3; W1. Prerequisite: One year of high school chemistry or one semester of college chemistry and a strong background in biology, or approval of instructor. Lab Fee: $24
