(Prerequisite: WLD 100) Introduces the major theory, techniques, and safety practices required for shielded metal arc welding in the horizontal position. Qualification tests, horizontal position, are used in evaluating student progress toward making industrial standard welds. Topics include: SMAW health and safety practices, production of welds and uniform width and height, manipulation of electrodes to produce specification welds, horizontal joints, uses of low hydrogen, mild steel, and other common electrodes in position welding.
