(Prerequisites: CIS 106 or advisor approval) Introduces networking technologies. Covers a wide range of material about networking, from careers in networking to local area networks, wide area networks, protocols, topologies, transmission of media, and security. Focuses on operating network management systems, and implementing the installation of networks. It reviews cabling, connection schemes, the fundamentals of both LAN and WAN technologies, TCP/IP configuration and troubleshooting, remote connectivity, and network maintenance and troubleshooting. Topics include basic knowledge of networking technology, physical layer, data link layer, network layer, transport layer, TCP/IP fundamentals, TCP/IP suite: utilities, remote connectivity, security, implementing the installation of the n network, maintaining and supporting the network, and troubleshooting the network.
