Description:
This course involves a study of the techniques and procedures used by police officers on patrol. It includes controlled substance identification, handling abnormal persons, traffic collision investigation, note-taking and report writing, vehicle operations, traffic direction, crowd control, and jail operations. This is one of a sequence of four courses that may be offered by colleges approved by TCLEOSE to offer the academic licensing eligibility program. Students who complete the seven (7) TCLEOSE approved academic CRIJ courses and the four (4) sequence courses may be certified to sit for the TCLEOSE license exam. Semester Hours: 5 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 5 Note: Approval by the designated college departmental administrator is required. SPC’s TCLEOSE academic license number is 511588. Along with the above requirements, students must earn an A.A.S. In law enforcement technology to take the state license examination to be a Texas Peace Officer. Both full and part-time students must have the college’s Student Accident and Liability Insurance.
