Prerequisite: ESC 112 This course focuses on the operation of industrial wastewater pretreatment facilities and industrial wastewater treatment facilities discharging directly to the environment (with NPDES permits). An introduction to industrial wastewater variables, components, effects and generation is included. Treatment processes including preliminary treatment (flow equalization, screening, pH adjustment), and physical treatment (air stripping, carbon absorption) are covered. Topics include: chemistry and related mathematical analyses involved in the operation of water and wastewater treatment plants; various tests necessary to maintain process control of water and wastewater treatment plants and monitor sewage and industrial wastes prior to disposal; and methods for collecting/handling samples.
