(4-3-3) Introduction to role of the professional nurse as provider of care, coordinator of care, and member of the profession. Topics include but are not limited to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease, the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage, and basic psychomotor skills. Emphasis on knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach. Included laboratory experiences provide the opportunity to learn, practice, document and demonstrate basic nursing skills in a controlled environment. Demonstration of competence in selected nursing skills and computer-assisted instruction (CAI) is required for satisfactory completion of the course. Content includes applicable DELC competencies. Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Concurrent enrollment in RNSG 1360 (Clinical) is required. Successful completion of both theory and clinical courses is required for progression. Lab included. Computer Lab fee $125. (5116010014).
