(4-3-4) This course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry I. Topics covered include the chemistry of ketones, aldehydes, carboxylic acids and amides; aromatics, polymers, Diels-Alder Reaction, electrophilic aromatic substitution, organic synthesis, protecting groups, Aldol Reactions, Michael Reaction, Claisen Reaction, amino acids and proteins. Nomenclature of aromatic and carbonyl compounds will be covered. The laboratory will involve synthesis, purification and analysis of organic compounds. Prerequisite: CHEM 2423. Laboratory fee $35.
