Prerequisite: SPAN 3175 and 4116 with a grade of C or better. The instent of this advanced language/culture class is to develop proficiency in all the basic language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) while providing an alternate introduction to modern Mexican culture by focusing on the works and experiences of selected Mexican women. After a brief consideration of several key women of the 19th century and earlier, study some major figures of the 20th century, and the cultural and political background of their lives and works. Texts to be studied include films, short stories, plays, chronicles, interviews and other selections from the press.
