M.Shardakova Introduces the concept of linguistic identity in relation to other identity facets (i. e. gender, ethnicity, class and culture) and explores ways in which acquisition of a second language affects self-conception and self-representation. Employs critical discourse analysis to discuss how second language learners construct identities through socialization into new speech communities. No knowledge of Russian is required.
