C.Hein The built environment in Japan does not resemble its American or European counterparts, leading visitors to characterize it as visually chaotic even as recent observers praise its lively traditional neighborhoods. This course explores characteristics of Japanese cities, their history and presence, and examines the particular cultural, political, economic and social contexts of urban form in Japan.
