Goal To study, from an intuitive viewpoint, the concepts of differential calculus and to begin the study of integral calculus, with an emphasis on applications in the social sciences. Content A short review of the properties and graphs of algebraic and transcendental functions, intuitive concepts of limits and continuity, rate of change, the derivative, derivative formulas, applications in the social sciences, and an introduction to definite integrals. Taught Offered occasionally. Prerequisites MAT 140 or equivalent; or demonstration of proficiency through placement test. Gen. Ed. Category Quantitative reasoning. Credit 3 hours. Credit may be received for only one of MAT 180 and MAT 205. Students planning graduate work in social sciences should take MAT 205.
