Goal In this course students will be challenged to reflect upon and examine complexities of the learning process not only as it applies to general humanity throughout history, but also to themselves in the contemporary world. All students will, in essence, use their own ways of learning and knowing as a laboratory experience. Content Students will use the processes of writing, speaking and structured inquiry to engage themselves and their fellow students in the act of "world building," that is, the collaborative construction of knowledge and meaning. Many of thecourse assignments will be autobiographical in nature, requiring students to reflect upon and analyze their own life experiences with learning. The learning theories of Howard Gardner, Frank Smith, Daniel Goleman, Jean Piaget and others will be covered. Qualitative methodologies (including narrative research) will be used. Taught Fall. Gen. Ed. Category Critical thinking. Credit 3 hours.
