Prerequisite: ability to play and understand major scales. All major or non-major instruments and voice types will gain knowledge in the basic theory of jazz harmony and melody. They will learn the language of jazz improvisation through the study of prescribed melodic patterns that can be placed in common chord progressions in jazz music. The objective of this course is to enable students to be creative in music without notated pitches.
