This course will examine the development of Germany from medieval times to the present gfovernment. Initial lectures will address the geographic setting and the medieval background of German history. among the major topics covered will be the Reformation, the 30 Years War, the unification of Germany by Bismarck, Hitler and the Nazi period, the Second World War, the Cold War and the collapse of Communism. The lectures will examine the political, cultural and economic aspects of these topics. (3-0-3)
