Goal To explore the methods and techniques of contemporary debate; to apply those methods and techniques in the context of both academic debate and non-academic forms of group discussion. Content Introduction to theories of argument and principles of reasoning; practice in the academic debate formats of the Lincoln-Douglas, parliamentary, and CEDA styles; strategies for group discussion. Taught Alternate years. Prerequisites COM 202, or permission of instructor. Credit 3 hours.
