NA A.Morris The developing nervous system of vertebrate embryos rapidly becomes patterned into distinct domains of neural cell differentiation. In order to identify what genes are responsible for the establishment of this pattern, a variety of molecular screening techniques are employed. The expression pattern of these genes is then determined by in situ hybridization and their function analyzed in vivo and in vitro, using microinjection and biochemical assays. Laboratory work is supplemented by readings from the current literature. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
