(5 credit/5 contact hours) This course surveys the changes that occur during the human life cycle beginning with conception and continuing through late adulthood and death. The scientific basis of our knowledge of human growth and development and the interactive forces of nature and nurture are emphasized. Topics include theories; research methods; nature and nurture; physical development: prenatal development, birth, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, and death; cognitive development: learning, perception, and language development; and social development: temperament, emotions, personality, attachment, parenting and family relationships.
