A survey of the Gilded Age or Progressive Era, 1877 - 1919. Themes will include expansion of industrial capitalism, the influx of "new immigrants" and patterns of "Americanization,middle-class social reform, emergence of the U.S. as an imperial power, explosion of nativist and racist sentiments, and the political mobilization of labor. Prerequisite: HIST 1301, HIST 1302, HIST 2301, HIST 2330, HIST 2331, or equivalent. (3-0) R
