This course explores the principles, methods, and materials for teaching young children language and literacy through a play-based integrated curriculum. The student will define literacy and emergent literacy; analyze various theories of language development; and describe the teacher?s role in promoting emergent literacy. The student will create literacy environments for children; and select and share appropriate literature with children. Prerequisite: CDEC 1413.
