This course is a survey of the painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, and decorative arts of the United States from pre-colonization through the era of the Civil War. The subject matter concentrates on mainland United States incorporating the arts of Native Americans as well as a variety of immigrant cultures such as European Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans and Mexican Americans.
