The course focuses on the ideas central to the theory of functions, and stresses conceptual understanding, along with multiple ways of representing mathematical ideas, including symbolic, graphical, numerical, and verbal representations of functions. Topics include functions in general; linear, exponential, logarithmic, polynomial, and trigonometric functions; and transformation, composition, combination, and inverses of functions. The course is technology based, and students will be expected to spend some time in the computer lab working with a computer algebra system. Prerequisite: Two years of college preparatory high school algebra or MATH 1314. Credit for MATH 2312 may not be earned by persons who have previously received credit for MATH 2313 or above.
