This course will survey the politics and governmental systems of a representative selection of countries from South and Central America and the Caribbean. While the course will cover various types of governmental institutions prevalent in Latin America, the primary focus will be on political development and change, in particular emphasizing the role of the military, the Catholic Church, economic interests, indigenous groups and foreign actors.
