This course will focus on American politics, social life and culture from 1920 through World War II. The class will emphasize the following issues: the politics and economics of the 1920's; the impact of the economic collapse on regional, racial and economic groups; the Great Depression and the politics of the New Deal; radical movements and ideologies in the 1930's; American responses to, and involvement in, World War II; and continuity and changes in literature and the arts over the entire period.
