This course is designed to introduce the reading process to teacher education students. An emphasis is placed on beginning reading skills development, including phonics and phonemic awareness instruction with a focus on the stages of learning to read and the reading process. Students will learn about theories of reading education in relation to the various reading programs offered in schools, instructional methods, and teaching methods. The reading scope and sequence and understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills will be addressed. (3305)
