1945 / Present. This course functions simultaneously as an introduction to the history of contemporary art (art since the end of World War II) and an introduction to critical historical methodologies. The aim is to open up new ways of understanding contemporary visual culture (through the various lenses of class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, commercialism, etc.), concentrating on how works can be understood in relation to the development of the contemporary art world and changing conceptions of what the experience of art should be.
