Prerequisites: All 200 and 300 level nursing courses. The student will build on concepts introduced in Fundamentals, Assessment, Pathophysiology and Med Surg I and Med Surg II. Application of the nursing process and standards of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses ( AACN) will be integrated into theory and practice. Content is selected to increase breadth and depth in medical/surgical nursing with integration of community and mental health concepts. Technical skills will be developed focusing on the acutely ill clients in the emergency and critical care environment. Concepts will be discussed involving mass casualty, disaster preparedness, and emergency preparedness as it relates to nursing care delivery. The students apply the professional roles in the provision of care in progressively complex situations. 2 Theory, 8 Clinical/Lab. (Fall)
