This course presents a survey of literature including short stories, poetry and novel excerpts by a variety of ethnic groups. Emphasis is placed on the historical context in which the writings have evolved as well as the problems encountered by these various cultural groups as they intersect with American culture. Through literature, students compare and contrast the language, values and beliefs of many countries as well as appreciate the common themes that unite people across the globe.
