This course is an introduction to the basic elements of, and defenses to, criminal liability. Topics include the basic crimes against the person (homicide, assault, battery, rape, etc.), the basic crimes against property (larceny, fraud, embezzlement, burglary, etc.), and the basic defenses and justifications (diminished capacity, self-defense, mistake, etc.). (PT) Quarter Credit Hours 4.5 LA W3033 COMMUNITY POLI CING This course is a historical examination of the strategies utilized by the police in America. It examines Sir Robert Peel and the development of the first paid police department in London in 1829. The course presents the evolution of policing as emigration in America increased and its population became more diversified. Students come to understand how policing is a partnership with the community and how the roles of all must be considered in the development of a policing program. Prerequisite: LAW1090.
