Description:
Students will address what is needed in the realm of language arts for students in grades kindergarten through second. In accordance with the recommendations form the National Reading Panel, heavy emphasis will be placed on phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency. Penmanship, early writing, developmental spelling, and developmentally appropriate children's literature will also be included. Students will address ways to assess reading performance and to prevent reading difficulties. The state's Grade Level Expectations will be an integral part of this course. Field experience required. Prerequisite: Ed 315
