Prerequisite: GEOL 311. The student in the second course of a three-course series will gain an understanding of the structure, composition, origin, occurrence, distribution and significance of the most abundant silicate minerals. The techniques of optical mineralogy using a petrographic microscope will be introduced as a tool for mineral identification. Weekly laboratories required.
