NS - This is the third course in a three-quarter sequence designed for science and engineering majors. Students learn and use the concepts of equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics to explain the extent, rate and direction of chemical reactions. Students will also explore a reaction's ability to do work in an electrochemical cell. Fundamental concepts in organic chemistry are introduced. Laboratory activities extend lecture concepts and emphasize experimental design, analysis and communication of results, and safety. Prerequisite(s): Completion of CHEM& 162 (formerly CHEM 152) with a grade of 2.0 or higher. (LAB)
