NS - This is the second course in a three-quarter sequence designed for science and engineering majors. Students apply concepts of atomic structure to understand and explain chemical bonding, shapes of molecules and intermolecular forces' effect on chemical properties. Students will compare and contrast behavior of gases and liquids, especially solutions, and refine their understanding of the periodic table. Laboratory activities extend lecture concepts and emphasize correct methods, measurement accuracy and safety. Prerequisite(s): Completion of CHEM& 161 (formerly CHEM 142) with a grade of 2.0 or higher. (LAB)
